Curious soul

We all have that one thing that truly captivates us, a passion that fuels our curiosity and drives us to constantly learn. I'm fascinated by what drives other creatives, so I though I would share a glimpse into my own process. I've put together five questions that explore my approach to interior design and the sources of my inspiration.

My greatest responsibility as a designer is:

To pour my heart and soul into every project. It's about more than just creating beautiful spaces; it's about understanding my clients' dreams and translating them into a reality that exceeds their expectations. This means carefully considering their lifestyle, honoring the architectural nuances of their home, and meticulously curating every detail to achieve a tailored design. To give each client my very best.

My creative process is:

Fueled by constant research. I immerse myself in shelter magazines, study the work of renowned designers like the AD100, and draw inspiration from local artists and the surrounding environment. Even the simplest elements, like the texture of shells gathered on a beach, can inform my design choices and infuse a space with a unique sense of place. For example, we recently started working on an East Coast project and used local sand and shells to inform the color palette - our process remains the same even though our studio is located in the Hill County.

The trend I'm noticing is:

While Austin's design scene leans towards a contemporary Texas style, I strive to create timeless interiors that transcend fleeting trends. That being said, I'm particularly drawn to the warmth and global feel of natural materials like marble and Moroccan tiles. Oversized marble slabs cascading down island counters and textural tile; these elements add a touch of sophistication and create a sense of inviting luxury.

The best part of my profession is:

Witnessing the transformation of a space and the joy it brings to my clients. After months of planning, designing, and constructing, that moment when the vision comes to life is truly magical. High end residential is a multi--phase process, so it often takes years to see the final result. When you see the glimmer of recognition in your clients eyes as they finally experience the completed space, the "aha!" moment when everything falls into place – that's what makes it all worthwhile.

If I had a week away from the studio:

When I need to recharge my creative batteries, I escape with my family. Traveling allows me to see the world through my children's eyes, rediscovering the beauty in simplicity and finding fresh inspiration in unexpected places. Sometimes it's a simple Hill Country hike, or exploring Austin's green belt. It's these experiences that revitalize my perspective and bring renewed energy to my work.
